Getting Ready For Adams Morgan Zenzile Riddick (6th grade) ![]() The Ile Omode middle school students had an interesting time in Washington, D.C. We went to a lot of places, including a delightful dinner in the Adams Morgan area. The dinner was delightful, but so were our outfits! You know when you are a girl, it takes a lot to get ready, and getting dressed in that hotel room was, well, um, let’s just say it was something! First of all, it all starts off with the first question - what am I going to wear? Skirt or dress? Leggings or tights? Even though we only had one suitcase each, you’d be surprised at all the choices we had. Once we finally decided what we were going to wear and with what jewelry, we had to put it on. With one bathroom and a time limit we were not very relaxed in our preparation. With a room full of “that’s mines!” and “Can you help me with my zipper?”, we were in a whirlpool of imperfection and mountains of clothes. Yet, as you can tell by the pictures, it worked out fine. Getting ready was fun, yet I have to admit hectic. We took plenty of pictures before leaving our room, and in the end we were absolutely gorgeous. I know I loved my dress, and I very much enjoyed my friends’ dresses too. (Especially Sennua’s, because seeing her in something without two legs is a first!) It was awesome! When we finally got out, we walked to the Metro Square. The escalator down was longer than I’d ever seen before. I think that if I had to live in that area I would love to ride the Metro. Even though it was super cold, we had a great time looking around and seeing people while we were waiting for our train. When the Metro got to the station, it looked just like the BART a little. I enjoyed riding it because it was comfortable, and it reminded me of being home on the BART. When we got off the train, we walked around the area. Some places we saw were like at home, but some were unfamiliar. It was nice to go out all together at night, just having fun, not worrying about writing facts or reading information or learning something new. We had a great time together. It was so fun that I forgot how cold it was. We ran into a place called Morgan’s. The lady outside gave us some advice on where we might like to eat. She recommended the Dinner, which was like an upscale Denny’s. I didn’t want to go, so I’m glad we decided to go to the LeftBank instead. When we got into the restaurant, we got a little upset because we felt like Baba Jahi was being slightly cheap. He wouldn’t let us get drinks, salad, appetizers, desserts, and we had to share one order of fries. Even though we were disappointed about that I still enjoyed the food, and thought the way it was placed on the plate was pretty. We took the walk back to the Metro station. On the way we stopped at an African shop and purchased pretty things. I enjoyed it, but I was getting tired so I was ready to go back to the hotel. The night was awesome and like I said, so were our clothes. It was so much fun, and even though we’ve been going to school together for the longest, we did a lot of bonding that night. It may have been our best night in D.C. |
