First Time Flyer

Zenzile Riddick (6th grade)

The trip to Washington, D.C. was the most exciting plane ride I have ever had! Well, basically the only one I had ever had! It was really fun and was something new that I enjoyed and would love to do again.

The first plane was from San Francisco to Philadelphia. It felt like the longest plane ride ever. I didn’t get much sleep at all, because I was very paranoid. I kept asking questions and thinking, “should I close the window, or not?” It was all very puzzling and very scary, but fun at the same time.

Although I enjoyed it, I felt sorry for the person I was sitting by, Sennua, because she had to take all of my “first-flyer” questions. But over-all, by the time I got to Philadelphia the jitters were gone and I was ready to continue my great trip.

In the airport, I was really tired, but I didn’t want to miss anything, so I stayed awake. I ate some food and explored a lot. Also, the fire alarm went off many times and I was the only one who was a little scared. Everyone else just laughed, and knew it was a joke. The next plane wasn’t that exciting because I had just spent many hours on a plane. Yet it did introduce me to something new - turbulence.

The second plane ride was slightly delayed due to rainy weather. While on the plane, it started to get really bumpy like a crazy rollercoaster! I didn’t know what it was, and at first I was kind of scared. But Baba Jahi assured me that everything would be okay and that it was just turbulence. That was very interesting. I also met a girl who was also from the west coast. She was from Oregon and we talked a lot about traveling and how much fun we’d have in DC. It was amazing!

On the way home, we got delayed 11 hours! We went to Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Las Vegas, and finally San Francisco. Each airport was different. In Pittsburgh, I spilled soda all over my shoes and it was terrible. I didn’t know what to do, and I was very happy that the flight attendant was very calm in telling me to just leave it. In Las Vegas, there were slot machines everywhere, even in the airport. I wasn’t very comfortable, but at least we were not there for long. And finally, home. The city air smelt fresher and better than ever. It was long and tiring , but overall it was a great trip.
