Last Day In DC
By Sennua Hunter (6th grade)

We took the Metro train to the Washington, D.C. National Zoo. When we got there we saw many animals. The animals I liked the best were the otters and the elephants. I don’t like elephants but I thought they were pretty cool. They had a giant scale for when the elephants walk around in the cage. One of the elephants got on the scale and weighed over 2000 pounds. It was so amazing.

After we left the zoo, since it was the last day we tried to go to the movies, skating, or bowling. When we looked up places everything was far except a bowling alley in Chinatown. Everyone wanted to go roller skating but it was far so we went to the bowling alley since it was only 7 minutes away. We got dressed in our regular clothes and headed out.

When we arrived at the bowling alley they said it was for people 21 years old or older. That was very disappointing but kind of funny in a way. I was actually laughing because I thought it was funny. We were all dressed up and ready to bowl and we weren’t even old enough.

After we found that out we went into a couple of stores and looked at shoes and clothes. I liked some of the shoes there. After we got out of the stores we kept walking and saw a whole bunch of Latinos on the corner with handcuffs. We saw a lot of people get arrested because when we were driving we had just saw this black young men get arrested. The police were out a lot and so I thought where we were was a grown up place.

After that we went to go get some ice cream. When I went to purchase ice cream for me and Aminah I gave the lady the VISA gift card and it was declined. I was surprised and embarrassed but it was pretty funny. However, luckily this other women bought it for us. I was so happy, Aminah and I said thank you to her a lot. Afterwards we were going to eat at the shopping place but we couldn’t find anything, so we went to the hotel and ordered pizza. The pizza was very good. After that we took showers, got packed and got ready to leave the next day to go to SF.
