Facts at a Glance
LOCATION: We're located at 8924 Holly Street in Oakland. Holly Street is near 90th Avenue and International Blvd. The school is located near both the 880 and 580 freeway. (To exit from 880, take the 98th Avenue exit. To exit from 580, take the Golf Links exit).

ENROLLMENT: We're a small independent private school, and have a student population of less than 60, from preschool to 6th grade.

MEMBERSHIP AND AFFILIATION: The school is sponsored by Wo'se Community Church, is a member of the Oakland-based, Independent Black Schools, and is a recognized private school by the State of California. Our preschool and afterschool programs are also licensed by the State of California.

CLASS SIZE : We generally allocate 20-23 slots within our preschool program, and maintain a 1 to 7 teacher/student ratio. Except kindergarten, the elementary classes are combined grades, with a maximum class size of approximately twelve students.

SCHOOL YEAR : The school year runs approximately from the second week of September (after Labor Day) to mid-June. Summer school runs from mid-June to mid-August (preschool is year-round).

HOURS OF OPERATION: The hours of operation for preschool are 7:30 to 6:00 pm; for the elementary it's shown below:

  • Early morning program - 7:30 to 8:30 am
  • Instructional day - 8:30-3:30 pm
  • Afterschool program - 3:30 - 6:00 pm
 
Tuitition

The detailed fee schedule is available online. In summary, preschool monthly tuitition is $615, and monthly tuitition for the elementary is $635. Tuitition includes daily breakfast and lunch, as well as morning and afternoon snacks. Sibling discounts are available, and if you're applying early, some co-op opportunities may exist.

 

 
Enrollment Process

The enrollment process is briefly outlined below:

  • Attend an Open House event or schedule a school tour (contact the school at 510.632.8230 for information)
  • Complete a questionaire after the visit, and an interview is scheduled with the school's director
  • Preschool applicants will need to meet with the preschool staff, and a classroom observation is generally encouraged
  • After your application is complete, the school's board is notified, at which time a decision is made and applicants are informed by phone
 
Open House Schedule

Open Houses are scheduled on the last Saturday of each month from 10-12 pm at the school, and are primarily designed for families seeking enrollment for the fall, 2007. Please note that we are accepting applications for K-7th grade, while the preschool provides open enrollment throughout the year. Elementary mid-year enrollment is available as space permits.
